This course provides an overview of the process of hiring and granting equity to employees and contractors in early-stage start-ups.
The course will cover a range of topics, including classification, standard hiring documents, such as offer letters, assignment of inventions, and non-competes, the types of equity compensation available to start-up employees, such as stock options, restricted stock units, and phantom equity, as well as the legal and tax implications of granting equity to employees.
Participants will learn how to design basic equity compensation plans, prepare grant documents, and structure vesting schedules for our hypothetical client.
