Job Description – Associate Legal Editor, Content Development

Who we are looking for:

We’re looking for an Associate Legal Editor to assist in the individual creation and editing of original legal education content within our Content Team.  

The ideal Associate Legal  Editor is a former lawyer with a passion for learning, writing, and presenting the law, combined with an appreciation for the challenges that law firm associates have and a deep respect for their time and intelligence.  You have a burning desire to create things with other people (things that are bigger than you), and you want to help others become successful in their career.  

As a team member of the content creation team reporting to the Executive Editor, you will contribute to the creation of original educational content and resources (i.e., instructional videos and content, simulation exercises, slides, quizzes, transactional documents, checklists, flow charts, best practices, model answers, course storyboards, etc.). Additionally, you will help the Content Team conceptualize and write modules consisting of easily digestible distillations of relevant law and practical guidance for attorneys executing a variety of transactions.

Responsibilities:

• Support assigned Course Development from initial work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) through the editing and production process.  Our training courses include original educational content and resources (i.e., instructional videos and content, simulation exercises, slides, quizzes, transactional documents, checklists, flow charts, best practices, model answers, course storyboards, etc.). 
• Convert legal content into multi-media modules consisting of easily digestible distillations of relevant law and practical guidance for attorneys executing a variety of transactions.
• Work closely with the Production team to conceptualize, review, and revise early versions of AC courses to produce a refined final product.
• Assist the Content Team with course improvement initiatives to meet educational needs.

Required Qualifications:

• JD from ABA-accredited school and active license 
• Ability to creatively develop legal concepts and practices into learning experiences, evidenced by a combination of legal training and thinking with creative storytelling.
• A good understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys and the legal market in general

Preferred (Bonus) Qualifications:

• Experience in an Am Law 100  law firm, preferably in corporate, M&A, IP/tech transactions or financial transactions
• Teaching or training experience, e.g. in a legal writing/skills course 
• Previous experience leading a content creation team including editorial and production resources
• Start up or other business experience a big plus
• Experience working remotely or within a distributed team environment
